Welcome To San Diego Medicare Options
With all the mailers and TV commercials, it's hard to weed through all the plans to determine which one is the perfect fit for you. I'm here to make Medicare easy.
As an independent Medicare insurance broker, I have access to over 40 different plans from over 20 different companies - therefore, I'm not biased or incentivized to direct you towards one company or another. This gives my clients peace of mind, that they're getting the best advice without any pressure or unethical motivations.
San Diego Medicare Plan Choices
There are 3 types of plans available in San Diego County, and I'm authorized to sell all 3 from many different carriers. This gives you flexibility and the freedom to shop for the best priced plan each year. I'll handle the paperwork, submission and tracking of your policy for free.
Medicare Supplement Plans
A Supplement Plan, otherwise known as a Medigap plan, simply pays for medically necessary costs that Medicare does not. The most popular supplement plan in California is Plan F, simply because it's the most comprehensive. The cost of a Plan F Medicare Supplement plan in San Diego County for a 65 year old non-smoker, is about $140 per month. Gap plans are fully underwritten, which means you can be denied coverage based on your health history or medication consumption. There are several "guaranteed issue" periods that you can take advantage of without the need to answer any health questions at all, please call for details.
Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDP)
Also known as Rx Plans, these type of insurance policies help protect you against the retail price of medications. There are over 20 plan choices in California alone, but typically the best fit for most people are the ones that cover the medications you're currently taking, at the lowest cost, regardless of the company issuing the policy.
NOTE: There are penalties assessed if you do not enroll into a Part D plan when you are first eligible. This is additional information about Medicare Part D late enrollment penalties.
PDP plans typically cost between $17 and $170 per month, depending on the type of coverage you require, number of medications you're taking, shopping preferences, and which Tier each medication falls into. Don't worry, I'll figure all this out for you and present you with several choices. Most clients of mine spend less than $30 per month for their plans.
Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C)
An alternative to Original Medicare is called Medicare Part C. These are bundled plans that include coverage for Doctors and Hospitals as well as Drug Coverage, all in one. We have over 20 different Medicare Advantage options in San Diego County for 2017. You have your choice between PPO's and HMO's. Advantage Plans typically include greater benefits and lower costs vs a traditional Supplement + PDP plan structure. There are over 24 Part C plans in the county and 15 different Part C Plans in San Diego with a $0 Monthly Premium. That means all you pay is your Medicare Part B premium and any co-payments that the Advantage Plan requires (like a $10 co-pay to see your doctor). Medicare Advantage Plans are also guaranteed issue at any age, and you can only be denied coverage if you have End Stage Renal disease (stage 5 kidney disease).
