This gives my clients peace of mind, that they're getting the best advice without any pressure or unethical motivations.
San Diego Medicare Plan Choices
There are several types of plans available in San Diego County, and I offer them all from several different insurance carriers. This gives you flexibility and the freedom to shop for the best priced plan each year. I'll handle the paperwork, submission and tracking of your policy for free.
Medicare Supplement Plans
A Supplement Plan, otherwise known as a Medigap plan, simply pays for costs that Medicare does not. Medicare has deductibles for inpatient hospital services and for doctors office visits. The most popular supplement plan in California is Plan F, simply because it's the most comprehensive. The cost of a Plan F Medicare Supplement plan in San Diego County for a 65 year old, non-smoker, is about $130 per month. Gap plans are fully underwritten, which means you can be denied coverage based on your health history or medication consumption. There are several "guaranteed issue" periods that you can take advantage of, please call for details.
Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDP)
Also known as Rx Plans, these type of insurance policies protect you against high-prices medications. There are over 30 choices in California alone, but typically the best fit for most people are the ones that cover the medications you're currently taking, at the lowest cost, regardless of the company issuing the policy. If you decide not to purchase a PDP plan, you will start accruing monthly penalties of $.34 (actual penalties can only be calculated by CMS) compounded for each month you don't enroll. Once you do enroll, these compounded penalties are deducted from your Social Security check for life. PDP plans typically cost between $16 and $160 per month, depending on the type of coverage you require, number of medications you're taking, shopping preferences, and which Tier each medication falls into. Don't worry, I'll figure all this out for you and present you with several choices. Most clients of mine spend less than $30 per month for their plans.
Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C)
An alternative to Original Medicare is called Medicare Part C. These are bundled plans that include coverage for Doctors and Hospitals as well as Drug Coverage, all in one. We have over 20 different Medicare Advantage options in San Diego County for 2016. You have your choice between PPO's and HMO's. Advantage Plans typically include greater benefits and lower costs vs a traditional Supplement + PDP plan structure. There are over 24 Part C plans in the county and 15 different Part C Plans in San Diego with a $0 Monthly Premium. That means all you pay is your Medicare Part B premium and any co-payments that the Advantage Plan requires (like a $10 co-pay to see your doctor). Medicare Advantage Plans are also guaranteed issue at any age, and you can only be denied coverage if you have End Stage Renal disease (stage 5 kidney disease).
